This version has an official name, too. For example, the last release, version 1709, was dubbed “Fall Creators Update,” and this one is “April 2018 Update.” As any longtime Windows user knows, the company is terrible with naming conventions, especially with these new Windows 10 feature updates. To make things easy, we’ll refer to them by the version numbers moving forward. “With our latest major release—the Windows 10 April 2018 Update—we want to give you back some of your greatest currency, your time,” Microsoft writes. “Our hope is that you’ll have more time to do what matters most to you, create, play, work or simply do what you love.”
Windows 10 Version 1803 aka “April 2018 Update”
Every new feature update comes with new UI tweaks, bug fixes, and new features. One of the more notable new features is the Windows Timeline that will allow you to view your past 30 days of your activities. The company has also released promo videos demonstrating some of the new features in version 1803, including Timeline, Dictation, Focus Assist, and new Microsoft Edge abilities. However, this new feature update isn’t as robust as previous ones, but everyone should upgrade for the security and performance enhancements alone. Microsoft is making it available to download on April 30th and will start rolling it out to users via Windows Update starting May 8th. Similar to previous updates, it will be a staggered rollout. Newer machines will be first in line and then to older supported machines and devices. Since there aren’t many “must-have” new features, and this release has seen several hiccups, you might want to delay or defer the update for a bit.
