I think everyone was expecting something like this to happen. As Google clears inventory to make room for the next generation of Nexus devices, it has dropped the price on the Nexus 4 by $100 in one day. Expected to be announced in September, the Nexus 5 is likely to blow its predecessor away in terms of performance and features seeing as its supposedly based on the LG G2, while simultaneously devaluing the 4 as well. In any case, this price change may indicate that manufacturing for the Nexus 4 may end soon and the new price may be what it sits at for some time. The new price for the Nexus 4 is as follows:
$199 – 8GB storage version (previously $299)$249 – 16GB storage version (previously $349)
Before You Buy
If you’re considering this phone, there are a few things to consider before purchasing.
The Nexus 4 is an unlocked phone that uses a SIM card. This means it is capable of working on any GSM carrier. A few GSM carriers you might recognize:T-Mobile, AT&T, MetroPCS, H2O, Straight Talk, H2O, Simple Mobile, etc…In order to use 4G on T-Mobile and some other GSM networks it will require that you unlock the radio using a custom ROM. Guide for that here on XDA-developers.The Nexus 4 does not work on CDMA carriers such as Verizon, Sprint, Boost Mobile, Virgin Mobile, etc.Nobody has any idea what the price will be for the Nexus 5 yet. It could be priced similar to the current Nexus ($299+) or it could be priced much higher to match what LG is asking for the G2.If Google maintains the same low pricing structure with the Nexus 5, we expect that the Nexus 4 market value will quickly drop much lower on reseller sites such as eBay.The Nexus 4 wasn’t the only Google device to go on sale today. The 7-inch tablet equivalent also went on sale at an even lower price.
Do you think its worth snagging a Nexus 4 at this new low price? Or are you more interested in waiting to see what Google will do with the next generation Nexus phone? Keep a lookout I’m going to write up full post on this because it’s going to take some serious thought to answer it in a proper way. Comment Name * Email *
